"For the first time, my doctor actually understood my history."

Amira Damascus → Frankfurt, 2 years
The hidden cost of moving

4.5 million people in Germany can't fully explain their health.

That's not a statistic. That's your neighbour, your colleague, your in-laws. People who built lives here but still walk into every doctor's appointment hoping nothing important gets lost in translation.

01

Half the appointment, lost in translation

45 minutes — that's how long the average misdirected visit takes. You explain symptoms in broken German. The doctor explains a diagnosis in words you've never heard. You nod. You leave. You search 'Befund Bedeutung' in the parking lot.

02

A medical history no one here can read

Your X-rays are in a clinic two countries away. Your vaccination card is in Arabic. Your last surgery report is on paper, folded twice, in a drawer at your mother's. 70% of people who arrived since 2020 say language is the biggest barrier — bigger than insurance, bigger than waiting times.

Why us, why now

You shouldn't need three apps to survive a doctor's appointment.

Google Translate can't read your Befund. Care to Translate is built for doctors, not for you. Health record apps assume you already know what 'Überweisung' means. We built the one tool that actually sits on your side of the desk.

Who BioTrail is for

Built for three kinds of people.

Healthcare in Germany is hard whether you arrived last month or have lived here for years. We built for all of you.

Newcomers

0–5 years in Germany

Immigrants, refugees, expats, international students. You carry medical history from another country, often in another language. You don't yet speak fluent German, let alone medical German. Every appointment is a translation challenge.

Long-term residents

5+ years, still navigating

Conversational German is one thing — explaining a chronic condition or understanding a Befund is another. You often avoid doctors until you have to go.

Family carers

Managing care for others

You coordinate appointments for children, elderly parents, or relatives who depend on you to translate, organise, and remember everything.

How it works

Four things BioTrail does, so you don't have to.

One wallet for your medical life. Built for the way you actually use it — in clinics, in emergencies, on your phone.

01

Translate your records, once.

Upload existing documents — prescriptions, vaccination cards, lab results, surgery notes. BioTrail organises, translates, and stores them in one wallet on your phone. Photograph any Befund and search through everything later.

02

Speak with confidence.

Real-time translation in 20+ languages — Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian, Farsi, and more. Tap once, place your phone on the desk, both sides hear their language.

03

Understand the system.

Plain-language explainers for Hausarzt vs. Facharzt, Überweisung, AU-Bescheinigung, Notaufnahme — what each means and when you need it. Walk into every appointment knowing what's happening.

04

Know what's covered.

Connect your Krankenkasse and see, in your language, what's covered, what costs extra, and what to expect on each bill. No more bill surprises.

Always with you

Your emergency card. Offline. In every language.

Name, blood type, allergies, current medications — accessible without unlocking your phone, without internet, without an account. If something happens, paramedics see what they need to see, in German.

  • Works without signal
  • Lock-screen accessible
  • Free, for everyone, forever

From people who tried it

Six stories. One feeling: finally understood.

I used to bring my husband to every appointment just to translate. Now I bring my phone.

A
Amira
Damascus → Frankfurt, 2 years

My German is okay. My medical German was zero. BioTrail's glossary saved me at the Notaufnahme.

T
Tomáš
Bratislava → Berlin, 4 years

I scanned my mother's prescriptions and finally understood what she's been taking for two years.

F
Fatima
Casablanca → Munich, 6 years

My daughter had a fever at 2am. The Notaufnahme staff didn't speak English. The translator just worked.

O
Oksana
Kyiv → Hamburg, 18 months

I always thought my Krankenkasse charged me wrong. Turns out half the bills were preventable. I just couldn't read them.

R
Rajesh
Mumbai → Stuttgart, 8 years

I've lived here longer than I lived in Turkey. But explaining my heart medication still takes 20 minutes. With BioTrail it takes one tap.

Istanbul → Köln, 15 years

Honest answers

Things you'd ask if we met in person.

Is my medical data really private?
Yes. All data is encrypted on your device and on our servers in Frankfurt. We never sell, share, or analyse your records for advertising. GDPR-compliant by design, audited by an external firm before launch.
How accurate are the medical translations?
We don't use generic translators. Our model is trained specifically on medical terminology with German clinical context, reviewed by licensed physicians. Accuracy benchmarks against human translators are published in our methodology page (coming with launch).
Does this replace a real translator at the doctor's?
Not for complex procedures or surgical consent. For everyday appointments, prescriptions, and explanations — yes. Pro plan includes 5 free minutes per month with a certified human medical interpreter, for the moments where you need a human.
What if I don't have a smartphone or good German?
The emergency card works offline on any phone — even without an account. The app interface is available in 20+ languages including Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian, Farsi. We're also working on a desktop version for tablet users.
Why is the emergency card free?
Because access to basic medical safety shouldn't depend on what you can pay. The free tier solves the scariest moments — first appointments, emergencies, the Notaufnahme. The paid tiers are for the everyday, where the value is obvious.
When does it launch?
Beta launch is planned for Q4 2026 in Frankfurt and Berlin, expanding to all of Germany in Q1 2027. Early access subscribers get priority onboarding and locked-in launch pricing.
Who builds this?
Five founders from Frankfurt School. Some of us crossed borders ourselves, some grew up translating for parents. We've spent the last year interviewing patients, clinicians, and Krankenkassen — and now we're shipping.
What if I sign up and it doesn't work for me?
Cancel any time, no questions. Free tier works forever even after cancellation. We'd rather you tell us why it didn't work — that's how the next version gets better.
Who's behind this

Five founders. One problem we won't keep ignoring.

BioTrail is built by five founders who've watched friends and family fight to be understood by doctors in a language that wasn't theirs. We've translated prescriptions at kitchen tables. We've seen diagnoses get blurred. We're building the answer that should already exist.
